Supplement Review: BiPro Whey Protein Isolate

img_1201With so many different protein powders out there on the market these days it is hard to find one that does not include artificial flavors and/or sweeteners. It sure is nice to see a natural one like BiPro that is also 3rd party tested to boot. (We will delve into later on what that means and why it is important). These are the key things that sets this protein in a different class than your typical mass market protein powder out there.  Keeping reading to see what else this protein powder holds in store for you.

Ingredients

Jumping right in with the ingredients the label is up front and straight forward with no crazy ingredients you can not say.  It only includes two to six ingredients (depending on the flavor) such as whey protein isolate, sunflower lecithin (instead of the less desirable soy variation), natural flavors and is sweetened with stevia.

Unfortunately with the cost of the raw materials for protein powders that has been steadily going up in the past 10 years or so too many companies are starting to add more fillers (carbohydrates, fats, flavorings, etc) to their protein powders giving you much less bang for your buck.  Some protein powders do this so much that there is even less than 50% of protein in the container and yet they call themselves a protein powder??? (BiPro contains 80-91%)  To figure out if you are being cheated like this simply look at the weight of the scoop vs the weight of the protein to figure it out. Beware this might be an eye opener.

Taste

Sure is does not taste like a McDonald’s milkshake or Dairy Queen Blizzard but for those looking for a natural protein powder this one is sure to please the taste buds. I would rate the taste overall an 8/10.

Mixibility

One of the most annoying things about preparing a protein shake is having it not mix thoroughly and stick to the sides of the cup. This is where this protein shines.  It mixes so great that no shaker is required only several stirs with a spoon gets the job done.

Third Party Testing and More

Here we go one of the most important and often over looked aspects of purchasing a high quality protein powder.  I am sure you have seen it but you are unaware of the differences.  Some protein powders have a “Nutrition Facts” panel and some show a “Supplement Facts” one.  In general when looking for a quality protein powder the ones with a supplement facts panel apparently have to go through more quality checks according to the FDA. Not to say that there can’t be a good one with a nutrition facts panel especially since some companies do their own extra testing. Although you have to feel more comfortable knowing more supervision has been done from the get go.

Some companies have also chosen to go further for athletes with many of them failing drug tests due to ingredients in a product but not specified on a label.  Third-party companies like NSF International independently test to determined that the final product complies with specific standards for safety, quality or performance.  According to their website this typically includes comprehensive formulation/material reviews, testing and facility inspections.  This is important as we we have seen with some products that have included high amounts of metals or contained unapproved ingredients that can be career wreckers for athletes as well.  This additional testing is another safety net to help buyers feel confident in what they are buying.

Recap

Overall for those looking for a quality natural whey protein powder biPro whey protein isolate should definitely be on the top of your shopping list.  It has a lot going for it that a true natural bodybuilder would want and many of the things they want to avoid.  Hooray for BiPro!!!
